The short version
- You don't need an account or your name to read the site, send a questionnaire or take a survey.
- Answers you send are reviewed before they're posted. Your name and email are optional and are never posted.
- We don't run ads or analytics on this site, and we don't sell your information.
What we collect
- When you send a questionnaire: the agency, the questions you answered, your answers, how you know (for example, that you work there now), the time, and your name and email if you choose to give them.
- When you take a survey: the agency, your ratings, whether you'd recommend working there, how you know the agency, your position (such as full time or volunteer), the date, and any comment you add.
- An anonymous visitor ID: the first time you send a questionnaire or take a survey, your browser is given a random ID. It's saved in your browser and with each answer and survey response. It lets you update your survey answers, and it keeps one survey response per agency for each browser. It doesn't contain your name.
- Technical information: like most websites, the services below can receive your IP address and browser details when you load a page.
- If you sign up for email updates: your email address, your name if you give it, and the date. We use this only to send the updates. We never sell or share it. The only outside companies that handle it are the ones that store it and deliver the email for us, and only for that purpose. Email us to unsubscribe or have it removed.
- If you email us: your email address and whatever you write.
Please don't include anyone's name or private details in what you send, or anything that would identify you if you'd rather stay anonymous. Small agencies, your position and details in your wording can make it possible to work out who wrote something.
Who can see it
- Answers: the site owner reads them privately. If an answer is approved, its text is posted on the agency's page, possibly with edits, along with the date. Your name, email and visitor ID aren't posted.
- Survey scores: each agency's page shows how many people have answered. Average scores appear once 3 people have answered.
- Individual survey ratings: these are saved without your name, and other visitors can't read them. The site owner can read them. At a small agency, a change in the averages after a new response could hint at how someone answered, so the averages aren't a guarantee of anonymity.
- Survey comments: only the site owner can read them. They aren't posted.
Services we use
- Google (Firebase and Google Cloud): hosts the site, stores answers and survey responses, provides the anonymous IDs and sends us email alerts. Alerts name the agency but don't include your answer, ratings or comments.
- Anthropic: its Claude AI writes the summaries on agency pages and flags conflicting answers for us. Approved answers are sent to Anthropic to do this, without your name or email. Summaries are labeled "AI summary" and can contain mistakes, so the full answers are listed with them.
- Google Fonts: provides the site's fonts, so your browser connects to Google when a page loads.
- Cloudflare: manages the site's domain name.
- Google email: handles mail sent to our support address.
Links to agency websites and Google Maps take you to those sites, which have their own privacy policies. We may also share information if the law requires it.
Saved in your browser
The site saves your anonymous visitor ID and sign-in information in your browser, and remembers your search filters until you close the tab. It doesn't use advertising cookies. If you clear your browser's data, or use another browser or device, the site can't recognize you, so you won't be able to update your earlier survey answers.
How long we keep it
We don't delete answers or survey responses automatically. We keep them until they're removed or are no longer needed for the site. Approved answers stay on the site until they're corrected or taken down.
Your choices
To ask us to correct or remove something, email support@suffolkcountymedics.com with the agency and what you sent. Because survey responses aren't tied to your name, we may not be able to find yours. You can change your own survey answers from the same browser you used.
This site is meant for adults who work or have worked in emergency services. It isn't directed at children.
Changes and contact
If we change this page, we'll update the date at the top.
